Japanese Garden/Water Reclamation Plant in Woodley Park

This is the main building - you may have seen this building in a movie or television show it usually plays the part of a futuristic high tech science lab. At the bottom of this page in a link for more information.

The water goes under the building giving the fish a place to hide from the predatory birds.

A traditional Japanese style house...there is a another smaller structure with a big round wood table made from a single slice of a big tree, where I snuck in as a boy when the gardens first opened....I cannot believe the table is still there over 20 years later!...I guess its too heavy to steal.

I saw quite a few different types of birds but this one stood out - it reminded me of the extinct Do Do bird.

Above and below - the guts of the system and the reason for its existence - the water reclamation system. I do not know all the processes involved, but you can smell the chlorine and polymers are also part of the process from what I have heard, probably used for flocculation, or gathering small particles together so they can be filtered out. I believe the pits above used to be open but that was many years ago.
